The ACP are excited to announce an upcoming professional development opportunity.
Friday 19th May 2017: 6.30pm registration; 7pm start to 8:30pm (incl. 2 hours CPD)
Curtin University Building 401
CPD title: The current state of research and practice in treating personality disorders
Presenter: Dr Matt Ruggiero
Presentation information: Significant progress is being made in the understanding and treatment of personality disorder. As such, formulation is increasingly moving away from phenomenology and toward a dimensional view of personality. With knowledge of the severe emotional dysregulation and consequent interpersonal problems that characterise these disorders, we are now able to distinguish therapeutic factors that reliably produce change from those that demonstrably do further harm to patients. In this seminar, Matt will present some of the important neuroscientific and experiemental research emerging in this field. Attendees will be introduced to the concepts of “epistemic trust” and “the alien self” and the key ways in which treatment with people experiencing personality disorder must differ from the treatment of those with more stable representations of self and other. Formulation will be presented as a key feature of the collaborative process throughout treatment.
Cost: $20 for ACP members, $40 for non-ACP members (to be paid in cash on the night).
