Biography

Fiona’s counselling experience is in a Medicare Local (formerly known as a Division of General Practice) with people of all ages and at all stages of life, from teenagers to the elderly, experiencing a variety of common mental health disorders such as panic, anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress, as well as life crises such as bereavement, unemployment, leaving home and school, childbirth, retirement, and relationship breakdown. Fiona has also worked with disadvantaged populations including refugees, and people with disabilities and their carers.

Areas of Interest: Family relationship issues, childhood trauma, disrupted attachments, such as adoption and fostering, and grief. Later in 2013, Fiona will be running psychotherapy groups for adolescents who are suffering the symptoms of trauma, stress and anxiety. The groups will incorporate meditation, mindfulness, yoga and psycho-education.

Biography

Penny qualified in South Africa in 1987. She was in private practice, as well as supervised Masters students training to be Counselling Psychologists, for 15 years prior to moving to Australia in 2009. In addition to her private practice in Fremantle, she works at Curtin University in the Counselling and Disability Services as a Counsellor. Her focus has tended to be on the here-and-now situation, enhancing the well being of the client and providing the tools necessary to deal with the stress or crisis facing the client, and enabling the person to interact more effectively with his, or her, environment (at home or at work, with families, friends and colleagues). Karen King was first registered as a Psychologist in 2004 and has enjoyed a diverse career working with individuals in large multi-national corporate organisations, mothers and their infants in a private hospital, children and adolescents at a not-for profit community foundation, and children and their families in a private clinic. Karen holds a Master of Psychology (Counselling) which involved six years training at university. Her research dissertation examined the outcomes of an attachment based mother-infant group therapy program and has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Child and Family Studies. In addition to her work at Brainbox Psychology Clinic, Karen is also employed as a Sessional Academic at Curtin University.
